MINIX relies on a stylish design with a slim profile and narrow bezels around the display. The dimensions of the CP89-HD display are 224 x 97 x 12 mm, and the weight is only 400 grams. Mounting it into the ventilation or onto the dashboard won’t be a problem.
The display comes in a matte black color design, and its diagonal is 8.9″. It’s a touchscreen, with HD resolution (1920 x 720 pixels), a 16:6 aspect ratio, and a resulting sharpness of 230 ppi. The maximum contrast is 1000:1, and the maximum brightness is 700 nits. It’s also a laminated panel (Mitsubishi Clearfit), featuring IPS technology with very good viewing angles of up to 170 degrees.
Dual-core processor, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB Type-C
Performance is handled by a more closely unspecified dual-core processor with A7 cores and low power consumption. It’s also complemented by 256 MB of RAM and 8 GB of built-in eMMC storage for your data and apps. The device’s operating system runs in the background on Linux, labeled Linux 5.4, but of course the main advantage is support for Apple Carplay with iPhones or Android Auto with all Android smartphones.
A built-in speaker delivers 1 W and 8-ohm impedance. Connectivity-wise, there’s also a dual-mode Bluetooth setup — thanks to Bluetooth 5.0, as well as a 3.5 mm audio connector. You’ll also appreciate the option of an FM transmitter for transmitting FM radio frequencies.
The MINIX display also supports Wi‑Fi connectivity, dual Wi‑Fi 6 (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz). The software you can install on the display can be either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay (both support only 5 GHz). The connection equipment is completed by a USB Type‑C port for power, with Power Delivery support. The device also includes an AV-in port for connecting a rear camera.
