The X96 Max Plus Ultra TV Box is currently on offer from the trusted international seller Banggood at a great price. VAT and customs duty fees are included in the sale prices, so you do not need to pay anything extra.
Editor's note from 17.2.2025: Since this is an uncertified TV box, it lacks Widevine L1 support and streaming services will only work at 480p. It also lacks official Android TV / Google TV system support, so official security patches may be missing as well. Based on our experience with similar TV boxes, we no longer recommend them. An improved successor to the X96 MAX Plus TV box
The X96 Max Plus Ultra S905X4 TV Box boasts an improved design and advanced hardware. The newer generation of the Amlogic S905X4 chipset, together with the quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor and Mali-G31 MP2 graphics processor, gives the device plenty of power.
With 4 GB RAM and storage of up to 64 GB eMMC, powered by Android 11 (not AndroidTV), the device lets you enjoy thousands of movies and series in 8K resolution and even games.
Decoding of 4K HDR, AV1 [email protected], VP9 and H.265 HEVC 4Kx2K@60fps, up to 8K@24fps, ensures excellent picture quality. Support for dual Wifi 5 802.11ac, fast Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.2 provides a reliable and fast connection.
I/O ports include HDMI 2.1, a 3.5 mm AV jack, optical S/PDIF, RJ45 port, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 port, TF card slot and DC jack. The compact design with a digital LED display on the front panel remains unchanged, making it an elegant addition to any home entertainment setup.
Our fan shared his experience with X96 Max Plus Ultra
Our fan Ďuro shared his experience with the X96 Max Plus Ultra TV box. In his comment, he especially highlighted smooth 4K movie playback and the ability to install apps just like on a phone thanks to the clean Android 11 used by this box. He also mentioned that he prefers this version over AndroidTV because it allows greater flexibility when installing apps. Thanks!
Traditional design, powerful processor and graphics chip
The design and build quality of the X96 Max Plus Ultra TV Box are simple and elegant. It is a compact black plastic box with rounded corners, measuring 7.70 x 7.70 x 1.70 cm and weighing 150 g.
Although it is made of plastic, it feels solid and has good build quality. On top there is a white X96 MAX+ Ultra logo, and on the front there is a blue LED display showing the time and the status of Wi-Fi, HD resolution and more.
When it comes to the side connectors, you’ll find typical ports like a DC output, 100M Ethernet, 1x USB3.0 port, 1x USB2.0, a Micro SD slot, 1x optical port, 1x AV jack & IR, and finally HDMI 2.0, which allows video output up to 8K at 60 fps. Under the hood, the X96 Max Plus Ultra uses the Amlogic S905X4 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex A55 running at 2.0 GHz.
This processor is known for its great manufacturing quality on 12 nm and delivers about 30% higher performance than the previous generation compared to the S905X3 found in most TV boxes. The processor is designed for high-performance devices and supports AV1 decoding, which is already required for popular streaming services.
The Mali-G31 MP2 graphics chip with a maximum frequency of 800 MHz and performance of 2.6 Gpix/s supports OpenGL ES 3.2 and can handle games like PUBG or Call of Duty.
The manufacturer also didn’t forget about 4 GB RAM for better multitasking and excellent results when navigating and launching apps. Storage capacity is 64 GB eMMC, plus a TF card slot to expand up to 64 GB.
X96 Max Plus Ultra Connectivity
For connectivity, the X96 Max Plus Ultra box includes 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz WIFI IEEE 802.11 b / g / n / ac dual-band for faster data transfer and a better streaming experience, and it also comes with 100 Mbit LAN.
We recommend using 5 GHz Wi-Fi, which is more reliable, faster, and provides even better data transfer over shorter distances.
The X96 Max Plus Ultra has Bluetooth 4.1, which isn’t the newest generation, but it works well. However, for this price category, the TV box would be better if it had a newer version like 5.0 or 5.3. The remote control sometimes doesn’t work in certain apps, which is a common issue with almost all Android TV boxes, because these apps are mainly made for tablets and touchscreen phones. We recommend buying a mini wireless keyboard or a remote control to make navigation on the screen easier in apps that aren’t designed for remote control.
Efficient cooling
Under heavy load, the temperature of the X96 Max Plus Ultra TV box can reach up to 75 °C or more, which may cause a slight drop in performance. In normal use, such as watching movies, the temperature is acceptable and stays between 55 °C and 65 °C. The cooling system of this box is effective thanks to the large number of ventilation openings that provide the necessary cooling. You can lower the temperature even more by using a cooling fan.

Hi, I want to use this box to play music via AV (to the AUX input on a stereo) or via BT on a speaker, but after turning off the TV (or disconnecting the HDMI cable) the sound plays for a few seconds and then goes silent until I turn the TV connected via HDMI back on. The sound goes both via HDMI to the TV and via AV to the speaker, but only as long as the TV is on.
Volume control has no effect.
The device is running and responding (I check it via DroidVNC), but the audio output doesn't work. Is there some Android setting so HDMI has to be active?
I just bought it and when watching a video this box already reaches 55 degrees (so it’s much hotter inside). Where do you see any ventilation holes? From the top it’s completely closed, and if it has the same design as the max+ (without ultra), then the board is upside down, so the warm air has nowhere to go… But to be fair, aside from the regular freezes, which you can live with, it’s fine (a few frames drop, but honestly it’s not very noticeable). As a solution, just keep it upside down… And that hybrid Android TV and tablet-like thing is really awful and only lets you install 32-bit app versions… But through USB you can install apps from all over the place (like on any Android TV)
Hi guys. Will the Skylink app work there? Thanks
Hi, probably not on this box. Skylink works only through the official Android TV, which is, for example, in this box https://chinaplanet.sk/mecool-km2-plus-deluxe-1/
It works, I watch Skylink on it without any problems
