Quick summary

  • Announced in China September 16
  • The AI button is also a fingerprint sensor
  • 7,100 mAh inside a body that’s 7.62 mm thick
  • Price from 5,999 yuan ($775), for now only in China

A week ago we wrote that Nubia is preparing a phone with an AI agent from ByteDance. Today it’s Nubia NaviX Ultra official worldwide, and with it come the prices and full specs. The most interesting part isn’t what’s inside the phone—it’s how the Doubao assistant controls it: instead of tapping through apps, you just say one sentence.

The second generation of the “Doubao phone”

Nubia NaviX Ultra follows the M153 model, which sold out quickly in China last December. However, its success was slowed by major Chinese apps, which limited what the Doubao assistant could do in them. According to Gizmochina, the new model now uses the consumer version of the assistant, which brings changes to controls, personal memory, task execution, and privacy settings.

Nubia calls it the first AI agent smartphone. The goal is that you can set a multi-step task across multiple apps with a single spoken sentence, and the assistant will finish it for you—e.g., order a ride or check your calendar. Some tasks can also be handled in the background, and the assistant will complete multiple requests step by step.

The main hardware identifier is the orange AI button, which also acts as a fingerprint sensor. Nubia claims it as an industry first, and positioned the button compared to the predecessor so it sits comfortably within reach of your thumb for one-handed control. The assistant also understands dialects, wakes up with your voice, and runs on a voice model that you can interrupt mid-sentence, similar to how a person would.

The manufacturer says that in noisy environments, such as a crowded metro, the assistant wakes up 48 % more reliably than the competition and recognizes sentences 21 % better. It supports more than ten dialects, including Cantonese. It also understands on-screen content and camera shots, so you can ask it about an object in front of the lens or have it help you during a video call.

Display, cameras, and performance

The phone features a 6.78-inch LTPO display with a refresh rate from 1 to 144 Hz, full coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, and peak brightness up to 4,500 nits. For sensitive eyes, there’s DC dimming and PWM at a frequency of 2,160 Hz. Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5—Qualcomm’s current flagship chip.

There’s an interesting change in the camera department. Early leaks pointed to a trio of 50 MPx sensors, but according to Gizmochina, the final setup includes a 200 MPx main camera, a 50 MPx ultra-wide lens, and a 64 MPx periscope telephoto lens.

Even though it packs a large battery, the NaviX Ultra is unusually thin. At a thickness of only 7.62 mm, it houses a 7,100 mAh battery that charges either via cable at 90 W or wirelessly at 50 W. Heat is managed by a cooling system with a 7,100 mm² vapor chamber area.

More AI features go beyond the assistant itself. Your phone can recognize a product on the screen and route you straight to the store, it can handle calls based on the answers you set, and it keeps important notifications pinned to the top. During advice sessions, it can start recording, transcribe it in the Lark Notes app, generate a summary, and then in the recording you can search using a normal sentence. Nubia also says that NaviX Ultra is the first device whose agentic language model has gone through registration with Chinese regulatory authorities.

Prices and availability

Nubia NaviX Ultra is sold in three memory variants. The 12 + 512 GB model costs 5,999 yuan (roughly €775), the 16 + 512 GB version is 6,499 yuan (about €840), and the top 16 GB + 1 TB option is 7,499 yuan (around €970). You can choose from four colors — black, pink, white, and blue.

For Slovak customers, the key point is that the phone is currently sold only in China, and Nubia hasn’t announced anything about a global version. For Europe, the manufacturer officially highlights primarily the Z Ultra photo phones, and for a phone built around the Chinese assistant Doubao, a European version looks even less likely. Anyone hoping to import it should expect that the main AI feature is designed for the Chinese language and Chinese services.
