After a few moments, OnePlus responded by completely pausing the features of the new sensor and removing it from the photo app. Since then, some time has passed, and the company is restoring the old familiar Color Filter through an update.
Update brings back Color Filter
OnePlus is gradually rolling out the OxygenOS 10.5.10 update, which, along with other improvements, brings the Color Filter sensor back onto the scene again. The update should arrive on every device via OTA within a few days.
Now it works in a “limited mode”
A few days ago, there were also rumors that the Pohotochrome effect was ported through the ultra-wide camera, meaning the smartphone doesn’t use the Photo Filter sensor at all. This approach was meant to keep the filter available, but without the ability to see through objects.
This information was later debunked, and it turned out that the Photochrome effect is available after selecting the main sensor in the camera app. It now works by combining the main sensor and the Photo Filter sensor.
If you cover the lens with your finger, this effect turns off immediately, and the smartphone will display a clean image. So it’s a way to protect against people being able to see through clothing.
It’s interesting to see how, in the case of various problems, the manufacturer approaches solving them. Whether OnePlus handled the situation adequately—we’ll leave that up to you. New OnePlus 8 Pro owners can at least be glad that their unique feature has finally returned, even if not in “full force”.
More improvements in the OxygenOS 10.5.10 update
However, this isn’t the only change in the new OxygenOS version. Optimization includes power consumption, touch responsiveness, and the overall user experience, as well as issues with playing HD videos through Netflix and Amazon Prime, Android Security Patch to 2020.06, and a charging issue above 90%.
