Lenovo has just pleasantly surprised us with its brutal new release from the gaming smartphone segment. It’s the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 model. Even the name itself hints that many parts of the device are basically a duel. Why?
Lenovo Legion Duel 2 is an awesome and unique gaming smartphone
Right at the start, we’d like to evoke the word duel, since it’s right there in the name of the new device. Inside the smartphone, you’ll find two batteries and two fans that cool the internal components. For the real players, there are also two USB-C ports ready to go.
Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 features a large 6.92-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2460 pixels), a high refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a peak brightness of up to 1300 nits.
The phone is also ready for online gaming streaming. That’s suggested by the retractable “selfie” camera, which extends exactly from the center of a horizontally rotated smartphone. It has a resolution of 44 MPx and can remove the background behind you during gameplay.
A camera module we haven’t seen before
The cameras are placed in the middle of the rear side. Gamers will likely use them only very rarely, but it’s still great when you don’t have to polish them after every session just because you’ve touched them with your fingers. The primary sensor is 64 MPx, and the company also adds a 16 MPx ultra-wide-angle lens.
It’s also helped by the integrated active cooling element. Heat from the device won’t come straight to one part of your hand—it spreads across the entire construction, so the phone cools down faster.
The extremely powerful drive is currently handled by the most powerful processor from the American giant Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888. It’s complemented by 18 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage.
As for the operating system, it’s of course the latest Android 11, with the Lenovo brand’s custom overlay ZUI in version 12.5.
Lenovo Phone Duel 2 will be available in “Titanium White” and “Ultimate Black” color options. The back features RGB elements, just as you’d expect from gaming devices.
A camera module, the logo of the gaming-focused brand Legion, and the fans are the specific signs of this smartphone. Only very demanding users will be able to match the new device’s bold features.
Two batteries are surely more than one. Says Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2
When it comes to the battery and charging, you can look forward to a pair of built-in cells with a capacity of 2750 mAh. You can charge them in just half an hour, thanks to a 90 W charger.
But you won’t find it in the box—you’ll need to buy it separately. To enable fast charging with up to 90 W, you have to connect two cables.
So the resulting picture of the smartphone is very interesting—and at the same time a bit controversial. Lenovo, however, says that if you charge the phone fully, you can have up to 8 hours of uninterrupted gaming.
Mobile network stability is ensured by support for 5G, including sub-6GHz frequencies. You can also finally add a gaming controller to the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2. We recommend you watch MKBHD’s video, which will show you what kind of proper gaming beast this really is.
The European price is expected to be 999 € for the version with 16 GB RAM, 512 GB of internal storage, and the included charger. 799 € gets you the edition with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB of storage—more than enough. However, don’t count on a charging adapter in this case either.
