OnePlus Buds Z officially: Even cheaper and more affordable wireless earbuds

After its first, long-ago announced true wireless earbuds in the form of OnePlus Buds, OnePlus brings another model under the name OnePlus Buds Z.

Affordable earbuds

OnePlus Buds Z come in an elegant glossy white color, made from quality and durable plastic. As for the device dimensions, the earbuds themselves measure 3.8 x 2.3 cm. The charging case is also quite compact. Its dimensions are 7.5 x 3.6 x 2.9 cm.

The weight of the earbuds is 4.35 g and the charging case weighs just 40 g. 10 mm dynamic drivers promise quality and balanced sound with great bass. Thanks to 3D stereo audio with support for Dolby Atmos technology, you can enjoy every music genre to the fullest. The total sensitivity of the drivers is 97 dB ± 3 dB @ 1 KHz.

Of course, the earbuds also offer water and sweat resistance IP55. This ensures comfortable use during various sports activities or in the rain. Since these are in-ear (earplug-style) earbuds, they should also include maximum comfort and a seal that can more or less reduce surrounding noise.

Connection is provided by Bluetooth 5.0, which enables a range of up to 10 meters. In terms of battery life, the OnePlus Buds Z earbuds offer 5 hours, and together with the charging case the value can go up to 20 hours. The battery capacity of each of the earbuds is 40 mAh. The charging case itself has a capacity of 450 mAh.

Fast charging and touch controls

Charging is done via a built-in USB-C connector. Unfortunately, the case and the earbuds themselves do not support wireless charging. However, fast wired charging can deliver up to 3 hours of audio playback with 10 minutes of charging.

There’s also touch control, offering gestures like pausing/playing a track, skipping/returning a track, lifting/canceling an incoming call, or calling up the intelligent Google Assistant. There is also a sensor used to detect your ears.

It’s more or less the same technology that Apple introduced in its AirPods in the past. In practice, the idea is that when you take even just one earbud out of your ear, the music or video pauses. As soon as you put it back, the audio starts playing automatically again.
