Electric scooters are very popular even during the summer months. In bigger cities, there is also scooter sharing, but that can be limited in terms of fees, availability, or zones where you’re allowed—or not allowed—to ride. That’s why more and more of you are choosing to buy your own e-scooter, and especially city models don’t have to be expensive. Evidence of that is today’s model Bogist M1 Elite, which we tested in detail in our review.

What’s in the box?
First of all, I have to highlight the packaging itself. Even though the box arrived slightly damaged by the courier service, its contents were packed very precisely using soft, cushioning materials and bubble wrap/protective film.
Once you open the box, you’ll find the electric scooter itself, including the handlebars (they’re folded down and pulled out), as well as the user manual and instructions for assembling/folding the scooter. A nice bonus is the scooter bag, which especially in this price category isn’t something you should take for granted.
Inside, there’s a set of screws and keys to secure the handlebars, a battery charger, two power cords (one of them also has a local European plug: – EU Plug, 220 – 240 V / 50 – 60 Hz), as well as a gift: a scooter lock with a numerical code.
Design and build of the scooter
The Bogist scooter is based on many popular city models. Two pneumatic tires are connected by a high-quality aluminum alloy frame, complemented by an anti-slip layer for the foot deck, front and rear lights, handlebars, an LCD display, and a manual bell.
We also have to mention the pleasant color scheme, with blue reflective elements on the wheels—so your visibility is ensured even in worse lighting conditions.
The scooter’s dimensions are 107 x 43 x 54 cm (when unfolded) or 110 x 42 x 44 cm (when folded and secured). Its total weight is only 12.5 kilograms, making this scooter an ideal companion even when you need to carry it. The maximum user load it can handle is 120 kilograms (including the contents of the carry bag).
The build quality is excellent—nothing rattles, and the welds are precise. The only minor downside is the glossy, lower-quality plastic on the handlebars, which is harder to read (LCD display) and can be easily scratched. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Control buttons
One key feature is how easy it is to ride and operate. It’s an affordable e-scooter that’s also great for beginners—for example, as your first scooter for getting around the city.
On the right side of the handlebars, there’s a control element for acceleration. The scooter needs to be manually pushed forward with one motion, and then you press the acceleration control.
At its core, there’s a system for recuperating electrical energy. That means when you slow down gently, the energy is stored in the battery. The scooter will start recuperating automatically after you release the acceleration control. At that moment, it begins to brake slowly on its own.
If you need to brake immediately, you can use the standard mechanical brake on the left side of the handlebars, which instantly activates the rear disc brake—just like on a bicycle. A bell is also located on the left side.
The middle part of the handlebars houses the LCD display. It shows you the battery energy, your current speed, and the scooter’s current riding mode. Of course, you can also view and adjust these details in the mobile app.
You can control its functions by briefly pressing the power button to turn the scooter on or off. When you double-press, you’ll then switch the front lights on or off.
What about European regulations?
Bogist also has you covered with the new European regulation. This scooter complies with it, so you can use it without any issues without needing PZP. The scooter meets the maximum speed of up to 25 km/h as well as the weight limit—no additional documents to fill out after purchase, and you can use the scooter in Slovakia right away.
Power and riding modes
But a city scooter doesn’t have to be slow. It has an integrated 350 W BLDC (brushless) electric motor that delivers the previously mentioned maximum speed limited to 25 km/h. We reached this speed without any problems on flat roads, but in hilly terrain it dropped to around 20 km/h.
The e-scooter’s performance also depends on the selected riding mode. Using the control button, you can switch between ECO mode (the most battery-efficient), D – Drive, and S – Speed mode. Naturally, “S” is the fastest, unlocking the full potential, but it drains the battery faster. You can see this data in real time on the LCD display.
The acceleration on this scooter is very good, and although the manufacturer states that you need to push it to 5 km/h, our “throttle pedal” caught on after the very first kick-off. Another advantage is that it also displays data in the Bogist mobile app.
On the internet you’ll find guides on how to pair it with the Tuya Smart app, but we can confirm that the official Bogist app worked reliably with a Bluetooth connection. We found a link to download the official app directly in the user manual.
Riding performance in the city and off-road
Let’s move on to riding performance. The scooter is designed primarily for the city, and we in the editorial team tested it mostly in a housing estate setting. On sidewalks—especially with step-free access—this scooter delivers the best user experience, as well as good speed and acceleration. It also didn’t struggle with rougher asphalt on older roads.
As for off-road riding, we tried it on slightly dusty as well as grassy surfaces. It wasn’t completely impossible, but the scooter struggled and didn’t offer its maximum potential in terms of performance. It’s definitely not meant for more challenging terrain.
Brakes, lighting, and the battery
Among the other features, we can mention the integrated E-ABS on the front wheel, which proved especially useful during emergency braking (the wheel has better traction while braking and a shorter braking distance), as well as mechanical disc brakes on the rear wheel. Also worth mentioning are the reflective elements on the wheels and the tubeless 8.5″ tires, which are relatively resistant to punctures (even on sharper curbs).
High-quality LED lighting at the front and rear takes care of evening rides with worse visibility. You control the lighting by double-pressing the control button or via the mobile app. The lighting quality is very good, again considering the price; we also used the e-scooter in foggy weather, and that’s exactly when we appreciated the LED light source technology. The brake light worked reliably, and like the other fragile parts of the e-scooter, it is protected by a protective film.
The integrated battery has a 36V / 10 Ah. capacity. What do the specs say? The manufacturer promises 30 kilometers on a single charge. However, this is a lab figure, additionally tested with a user weighing a relatively low 55 kg. We tested riding with users weighing 55 kg, 75 kg, and even 100 kilograms. In all cases, the e-scooter’s acceleration was excellent; naturally, the biggest difference, and thus the fastest acceleration, was recorded with a slight margin by the lightest user. But how did the range turn out?
30 kilometers on a single charge is not unrealistic if you ride mostly on flat terrain, at around 15 km/h and in ECO mode. But we said that if it’s a city e-scooter, its dynamics matter. So we rode mostly around a hilly housing estate, at speeds ranging from 20 – 25 km/h. The resulting range dropped by about a third, to 20 – 21 kilometers. The reliable charger with a European plug will charge the battery to full capacity in about 4 – 6 hours.
Final verdict: Bogist M1 Elite
What can we say in conclusion? For its sale price, the Bogist M1 Elite is truly a very good buy, with performance especially suited to the city and fully compliant with current European legislation.
If you want to treat yourself to a new electric e-scooter model for everyday trips of up to 30 kilometers, you’ll be happy with this model.
If you want better suspension and plan to use it on rougher terrain too, it’s better to look at more expensive alternatives with a sturdier frame and better suspension.
