After Angwatt CS1, a newer model named Angwatt F1 New has made it to our test. The scooters are very similar to each other—so much so that it might seem like they’re almost identical models. At first glance at the specs, it looked that way to us too. However, the newer Angwatt F1 New is cheaper and, in practice, even outperforms the older version in almost every way—or at least matches it. What drawbacks that were typical of last year’s model have been fixed? This is a review of Angwatt F1 New.

Quality and package contents

The box was 35 kg and the courier handed it to us directly into our hands while we picked it up. We want to point out that you can carry the e-scooter up to higher floors yourself, probably without needing help. The e-scooter is packed in the box folded in half and has the handlebars and display detached so they won’t get damaged during transport. The polystyrene reinforcement and soft plastic films protected the e-scooter sufficiently during shipping, although we did notice a few minor scratches (as you can see in the photos). Still, it’s much better than what happened with Angwatt CS1, which arrived a bit battered.

The screen is plastic and you’ll basically scratch it as soon as you start handling it. There’s simply no way to avoid scratches on it. Assembling, putting together, and fine-tuning the e-scooter will take you about an hour. The package includes a compact set of screwdrivers and wrenches with which you’ll tighten all the screws. You’ll also find a brief user manual and a charging adapter with a power rating of 110 W in the box. The instructions, by the way, don’t include a more detailed assembly procedure. But the process was clear to us, and you’ll manage it too.

In the end, you’ll also find two NFC key fobs that serve to unlock the e-scooter. We’re glad that the front light was already mounted, so we didn’t have to deal with it ourselves like in last year’s model. Mounting the rear fender took us the longest because the screw holes are less accessible. It’s not a very intuitive mounting, but we eventually got it done. The kickstand is located on the left side. The height at which the handlebar is positioned is adjustable — you can choose from three levels. We set it to the highest one.

Construction, build quality, design, and lighting

Angwatt F1 New looks stylish and, given the price, it’s also very well built. It combines materials like an aluminum alloy, steel, and plastic. It’s durable and robust, weighing a reasonable 27 kg. You can also fit it into a standard three-person elevator. It’s very comfortable to handle, and locking it in the folded position is handled elegantly – much better than with the Angwatt CS1. This is done with the red lever and a steel safety pin next to it. The standing area is very large and wide. It’s made of plastic and, as you can see, it gets dirty rather easily. It has the scooter name on it.

Even though it’s a cheaper e-scooter, we’d rate the overall construction quality as above average. Sometimes something creaks, but again, it’s completely acceptable, and this one creaks noticeably less than the older model. We’re glad the manufacturer managed to make several construction optimizations and even significantly reduce the price. The damping is very effective, and you’ll feel its function as soon as you step onto the e-scooter. The shocks dampen impacts nicely when riding over rough terrain. Occasionally you can hear a quiet, crackling sound, but again, it happens much less often than with the older model.

The design of the Angwatt F1 New is boosted especially by the lights. Again, you get LED lights on the side, brighter lighting in the front, as well as rear brake indicators and turn-signal indicators. The front light is strong enough for riding around the city, but if you plan to ride this e-scooter at night on unlit sidewalks, we’d add something stronger, for example on the handlebars. As for the turn / brake lights, they’re less noticeable, and we somewhat doubt that drivers will spot them during the day.

Controls, unlocking, and display

Let's start with the button module located on the left side of the handlebars. As you can see in the manufacturer's picture, the “+” and “-“ buttons are used to change the gear. In fact, it's not a gear at all, but a power mode. There are “gears” 1 to 5 available. The higher the number, the higher the allowed top speed, which increases by roughly 10 km/h up to our tested maximum of 50 km/h. At higher levels, the e-scooter generally also accelerates more aggressively and briskly. Once the e-scooter has been riding at the maximum speed for a longer time within a given “gear”, you no longer need to hold the throttle lever, and you'll keep a constant speed. You deactivate it simply with the brake.

There is also a power button here, which is used to start the e-scooter – you have to press it and then bring the NFC card close to the display. Registering the card is very quick, and if you place it in the middle of the screen, everything is ready in about a second. On the Angwatt CS1, this was a problem. On that one, you'd have to circle the card around the display for several seconds before it was registered – terrible. The Angwatt F1 New fixes this shortcoming. With the “D/S” button, you can “put it in neutral” – in S mode, the e-scooter won't move after you press the throttle.

Finally, there are also controls for activating the lights and a horn that is quite loud. Under the module there is a sliding control for activating the turn signals – you need to slide it in the desired direction. When it is in the middle, the turn signals turn off. While indicating a change of direction, you'll hear a quiet beeping sound. On the right side of the handlebars there is a throttle lever. The brake on the left is the rear one, and the one on the right is the front one – so it's completely opposite to most bikes.

The display is made of plastic, and outdoors its brightness is so low that you'll barely see anything on it. Readability is also made worse by scratches, which appear on the screen practically immediately and were already there from the factory. Otherwise, this panel shows speed, kilometers ridden since startup and in total since the first power-on. You'll also see the currently selected power level, the selected riding mode (D/S), battery voltage, and a graphical battery charge indicator. It isn't very accurate, and once the charge level drops below 3 bars, the others disappear quite quickly.

If you let the e-scooter “rest” for a short time, the voltage rises again, and for example you can suddenly go from one bar to three – this is confusing, because after you start riding it drops again. Estimating the remaining range is therefore quite difficult, and you'll have to get used to it. The model we tested a year ago had the same weakness.

Power, range, and charging

What the Angwatt F1 New and the CS1 have in common is the motor power – 1000 W. But the difference in favor of the newer model is huge. We were very pleasantly surprised, because the CS1 couldn't handle steeper hills or gravel terrain. Although the F1 struggles a bit on such surfaces, it still gets up hills and over gravel at a decent speed – great stuff. The brakes are also a huge improvement, as they are stronger. Cornering is smooth, but when turning sharply right or pushing the e-scooter and turning the handlebars, you can hear a quiet rubbing sound, probably from the front brake disc. It can definitely be fixed.

We tested the e-scooter in milder spring weather around Poprad and the surrounding area. The temperature ranged from 12 – 20 °C and at most there was only a light breeze. The reviewer weighs 97 kg and the vehicle has a payload capacity of approximately 120 kg. Angwatt CS1 was bigger and could handle a much higher weight of up to 200 kg. In our opinion, however, 120 kg is enough and we didn’t notice any signs of overload. The 1000 W motor handled everything effortlessly. We took measurements using the built-in GNSS (GPS) localization system in Apple Watch Ultra via the WorkOutDoors app, which provides a nice overview of the route statistics.

Our first ride was on a 25 km loop, which included several challenging elevation changes – the climb amounted to up to 244 meters, which definitely put the e-scooter to the test. The good news, though, is that it handled all the steeper hills. We already had to push the Angwatt CS1, which we tested last year, on those very same hills. We completed the loop in one hour at an average speed of 24.45 km/h. We reached a top speed of 42.2 km/h. The ride started with five bars and 49.4 V – at this charge level, the e-scooter arrived (after a full subsequent charge, the voltage indicator showed 54.6 V).

After 6.5 km and conquering a longer steep section, we had 4 bars and 47.4 V. The e-scooter reported that we had covered 8.3 km, which is a difference of as much as 1.8 km versus reality. So the odometer on the e-scooter is inaccurate. The 6.5 km weren’t reported only by the watch – we also checked it on the maps and the numbers match. Then came a 4.2 km stretch with a mild climb and descent. We rode it at almost full speed – about 42 km/h. After this section, another bar disappeared and there were still 3 left.

The voltage was 46.4 V. After a 2 to 3 minute break, we noticed that the fourth bar was added back and the voltage increased to 46.9 V. We covered a total of 10.7 km, followed by a downhill ride and cruising on the flat – this part of the route is 13.7 km long. We were lucky that exactly at 24.4 km the e-scooter announced the end – instead of showing speed, the display showed E5, which means the traction battery is almost depleted. The voltage was 40.9 V and in this case you’re already riding at a speed of about 5 km/h. The e-scooter’s mileage counter showed 28.8 km, while in reality it was 24.4 km. Here we need to keep in mind that although the battery indicator at the start of the ride showed 5/5 bars, the voltage wasn’t at maximum, so in the ideal case we could probably still get a few more kilometers out of this more demanding route. 40 km would, in our view, be achievable under the same conditions.

The e-scooter charged for 10 hours. The charger adapter is bulky and has an LED charge-status indicator. It even includes active cooling, which you’ll probably be able to hear. We also like the redesigned charging port – this time the cover is screw-on, so it won’t fall off by itself. With 54.6 V and a full charge, we set off for a 14.77 km city ride with an average speed of 15.4 km/h and 89 m of elevation gain.

It was a loop, so during the ride we traveled the same number of meters up and then down. We completed the route in roughly an hour. At the end we still had 5 bars and a voltage of 51.1 V. The next ride was 8 days later, and after starting the e-scooter the voltage didn’t drop compared to the previous ride – if anything, it was higher. We started at 51.5 V. That pleasantly surprised us, because the e-scooter had been stored in a cold storage space – the weather worsened and testing was complicated by unexpected March snow. We rode for about an hour and a half through the city and nearby cycling paths at an average speed of 19.2 km/h and a 200-meter climb (followed by a descent).

After riding for about 10 km, one battery bar (48.9 V) disappeared from the charge indicator. Overall that day we covered 31 km, and in the end we managed to drain the battery down to 3/5 at a voltage of 45.5 V. We “maxed out” the e-scooter 5 days later after riding 4 km + another 2 km with limited power due to low voltage, which we no longer tracked. As you can see, we got from three bars down to one significantly faster than from five down to three.

It was a city ride with an average speed of 16.3 km/h. All on flat ground. As a result, that comes to approximately 52 km of city riding including sections on paths intended for cyclists, where we rode on the highest performance level. In our opinion, that’s solid—especially when you consider that tests usually take place on hilly terrain too. The range claimed by the manufacturer is 50 – 70 km. So it falls on the lower end of this theoretical limit, which is relatively wide.

Angwatt F1 New: Final evaluation

Angwatt F1 New has our unequivocal recommendation. It’s a great e-scooter with which you’ll definitely enjoy plenty of kilometers and it won’t cost you much either. For this price, it’s a very nice deal. It has high performance, a good range, and dynamic riding characteristics. The build quality is better, the brakes are more effective, and it was possible to reduce both weight and dimensions. Plus, it’s a relatively well-packable companion for both the city and certain types of terrain.

The downside is the display again: weak brightness, prone to scratches. We also consider the rather confusing display of remaining battery energy and the incorrect calculation of the distance covered to be drawbacks. Other things were more or less minor details, and the positives clearly outweigh the negatives. In the price category up to 500 euros, it’s currently one of the hottest e-scooters we can recommend.

If you’re looking for an e-scooter with still decent performance (1000 W and 50 km/h), a weight of less than 30 kg for easier handling, better suspension (front fork and rear shock absorption), or a battery around nearly 20 Ah, the Angwatt F1 New is definitely a choice you won’t regret. For this money, you’d have a hard time finding anything better.

I have this brand at home too, and I can honestly say I’m very happy with it for the money—it’s top-notch. There’s nothing better for the city market. It’s true... In fact, I’m the owner of the Max G2 from Segway and I’m much more satisfied with it. The range is way better, and the power up hills is at least one class—and sometimes two—better. I never want to see a 36V system again. That was disgusting on hills—I even had the brand’s manual kickstand literally pushing me away from riding it. So I’m glad I sold it and got rid of it (I also weigh about 100 kg). About the inaccurate kilometers—what you wrote: After 6.5 km and conquering a longer steep climb, we had 4 bars and 47.4 V. The scooter reported that we’d ridden 8.3 km, which is a difference of as much as 1.8 km compared to the real distance. So the display/counter on the scooter is therefore inaccurate.  And e-fanatic also mentions this right at the beginning in their YT review—you just need to set it in P settings / or change the wheel diameter from 10 to 9.5, and it will be fine. Since I changed it like that based on their advice, everything measures correctly. But about the volts near the end of the battery—that’s really annoying. Or probably the biggest downside of this brand, apart from the bad readability of the display: I never know when it will turn off or how much real range I have left. That’s a very unpleasant thing. Hopefully they’ll fix it over time with a firmware update.
And as for the range—really, as the manufacturer states, you can safely get within that interval. So with this manufacturer, just like with its predecessor Laotie, they quite accurately hit the stated kilometers versus reality, which I like. So it should be that way. Because if you’re not going up steep hills, but mostly riding flat and on the first few usable speed levels around 20–25 km/h, then you practically won’t reach under 50 km range unless you weigh like a bull—well over 100 kg 🙂 That’s a fantastic conclusion, and all thanks to the energy-saving controllers that intelligently pull and redistribute voltage from the battery—and also the battery itself clearly isn’t some cheap China junk.
