Assembly out of the box is difficult, but not demanding
The Lankeleisi X2000 Max will arrive in a rather heavy 40-kilogram box. The bike itself is very well packed inside so that no part gets damaged or the paint scratched. Lankeleisi really does set a good example here.
Assembly requires two people, because it would be hard for one person to lift the 37-kilogram bike out of the box. Most parts are already nicely assembled; all you need to do is mount the front wheel with the motor and connect the wiring. You also need to attach the handlebars to the stem, the seat, and screw on the pedals.
Then all that’s left is to fit the plastic fenders and attach the front light. Assembly is very easy and fairly quick. Those who use a rear rack will definitely appreciate the sturdy rear carrier, which can easily handle even a few groceries.
A solid folding frame construction
We really like the build quality and overall finishing of the bike. The engineers from China clearly put thought into designing and manufacturing the folding mechanism so it feels sturdy in use. We believe this mechanism will last much longer than some cheaper Chinese brands you’ll find on AliExpress.
The bike is 178 cm wide overall. The highest part—the handlebars—sits at a height of 118 to 125 cm, since they’re height adjustable. When folded, it’s only 95 cm wide and 79 cm tall, so you can fit it into even smaller suitcases with ease.
You can fold the bike in the middle and then remove the battery from the frame, which will be especially appreciated by apartment building residents. The stem with handlebars can also be folded down, allowing you to fold the bike into itself and fit it into the trunk of a larger car.
A very successful design
A zinc alloy frame comes in a nice black matte finish with orange accents. This finish looks genuinely great and, based on our subjective opinion, it’s the nicest of the three available colors. The orange paint is also on the inner sidewalls of the rims.
We also like the neat cable routing on the handlebars—basically, all the cables from the factory are hidden inside a fabric zip cover. The power cable for the front motor is also securely mounted in plastic holders that are tightened with screws.
The front suspension is pretty decent
The Lankeleisi X2000 Max includes only a front oil suspension fork, so it lacks rear suspension—which you’ll feel on rougher terrain. However, the front fork really pleasantly surprised us, because with Chinese e-bikes we’re used to extremely soft suspension that even the adjustable control can’t really help.
With a heavier rider (around 85 kg and up), you can feel that the suspension keeps doing a solid job, which really surprised us. First, we suspected it might be an air fork—we didn’t see any greasy cylinder—but it’s actually an oil fork. Even though there’s no rear shock here, the thick tires at least partly serve the purpose of cushioning.
It has hydraulic brakes, but it’s not Zoom
With Lankeleisi, we’re used to higher-quality hydraulic brakes. The last model we tested, Lankeleisi RV800 Plus, has Zoom’s higher-tier brakes, but the Lankeleisi X2000 Max has slightly worse DYISLAND brakes. They’re not bad, but you can tell that if we need stronger braking, you’ll have to use noticeably more hand force.
The rotors are 180 mm in diameter, which we think is sufficient for such a massive fatbike. Smaller ones probably wouldn’t be enough for a higher rider weight, while bigger ones would obviously not be a problem either.
The tires are 20 x 4 inches and they’re CHAOYANG, a brand that’s fairly solid in quality. The tires grip excellently, and thanks to the nature of fat tires, the bike has no problem with higher obstacles—or, for that matter, with – potholes either. You can ride over pretty much anything with it.
Real stopping power thanks to two motors
The biggest selling point of this electric fatbike is clearly the presence of a motor in both the rear and front hub. There aren’t many dual-motor e-bikes, so we’re happy to add this to our portfolio of Chinese models. Two motors ensure smooth climbing even with higher rider weight, and we can confirm it pulls perfectly.
The manufacturer has likely limited full power to both motors during takeoff via the controller, and that’s why we were wrongly expecting the effect of wheel slip and shooting stones around the area. The launch is definitely smoother than on the more expensive RV800 Plus, and with some 250 W motors on competing brands you can’t really compare it.
According to the manufacturer, the maximum torque is actually a bit lower than on the RV800 Plus: 100 Nm vs the current 90 Nm. That’s why we think the manufacturer could have gotten a little more out of both motors. But it’s probably because we’re dealing with a Bafang motor on one side and an unbranded motor on the other.
The motors can be switched on using a manual twist throttle or via pedaling. Depending on the set speed level from 1 to 5, the bike will automatically add speed.
No shortage of branded Samsung cells
Another strong selling point of the Lankeleisi X2000 Max is its quality Samsung cells, ensuring a noticeably better range—something we confirmed even in our previous review of the Lankeleisi RV800 Plus. They have a capacity of 20 Ah, which is very solid for a bike in this price range.
We decided to test the range on both motors off-road. The test rider weighs about 80 kg, and we managed to cover almost 60 kilometers on a single charge in the speed mode 3 – 4, which is very respectable. With one motor, a range of around 90 kilometers is therefore very realistic—though it depends on the average speed, which can make a big difference.
Rear and front lighting, or a rear rack
The basic equipment out of the box is decent. On the front, there’s a standard LED light, but what other brands miss is a rear light. The Lankeleisi X2000 Max also includes a stylish rear light in the package.
The strength of the front light isn’t groundbreaking—it’s more of a standard light, and we’d recommend getting something stronger for the handlebars.
The basic Shimano derailleur
As we expected, it turned out to be true. Not only Lankeleisi, but also other Chinese manufacturers like to use the basic Shimano Altus derailleur, the crankset—so Lankeleisi X2000 Max is no exception.
There are only 7 speeds, and there’s a shortage of them. You notice it right away at speeds of 35 km/h and above. It would really be great if the Chinese invested in better gearing, because you’d get much more from the ride experience itself. Also, more ambitious cyclists could do more with a bit more effort from their own manual pedaling.
Final verdict: Lankeleisi X2000 Max
We can rate the Lankeleisi X2000 Max as a very well-executed fat bike that brings dual motors, a folding frame, and a quality battery made with Samsung cells—under the 2000 € price point, which was missing from Lankeleisi’s lineup.
We appreciate the quality aluminum alloy with a reliable folding mechanism, a removable battery from the frame, hydraulic brakes, quality 20″ thick tires, and a clear LCD display.
What we can, however, criticize the manufacturer for is the weaker performance of both motors than we expected, and ultimately also a lower torque than the Lankeleisi RV800 Plus. We’d also prefer wider handlebars, and as always – very weak, basic Shimano Altus derailleurs.
